Frequently asked questions
Why does the converter stop at 3999?
Standard Roman numerals have no symbol for 5000, so 3999 (MMMCMXCIX) is the largest number written with the usual letters.
How does subtraction work in Roman numerals?
A smaller symbol placed before a larger one is subtracted, for example IV is 4 and IX is 9.
Is it free?
Yes. All tools are free, with no sign-up and no limits.
Is my data stored or sent?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
Are the results exact?
Fractions, bases and GCD/LCM use exact integer arithmetic. Statistics use standard formulas on decimal numbers.
